What’s a Warm Fuzzy?

I like to refer to “Warm Fuzzies” as anything that puts a smile on someone’s face, something that celebrates a milestone (big or small), or reminds a person that they are special. Warm fuzzies can come in many forms, and can be given in unlimited ways and for unlimited reasons.

Maya Angelou reminded us that “People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

The wonderful thing about warm fuzzies is that they always make the recipient feel good. People love feeling recognized and appreciated. Whether it’s a birthday or anniversary wish, congratulating someone on landing that new job, or simply letting them know how grateful you are that they are part of your life – the impact is the same, each and every time. You cannot buy the top-of-mind awareness that is created when you make them feel good.  They’ll never forget you!

Sending warm fuzzies is as impactful as receiving them!

Collect “warm fuzzies.”

Every time that you receive an email, Facebook post, card or letter from someone thanking you for something that you did, praising you for a job well done, or just letting you know that they were thinking about you, store it in your Warm Fuzzies file. When you catch yourself feeling down or focusing on negative thoughts about yourself, open the file and read what’s in there to reaffirm just how wonderful you truly are. And, teach others to do the same so that they, too, can feel grateful for the wonderful people in their lives.
